  • Dirty Rigger Glove Size Guide

A well-fitting work glove is a safer work glove.

Too big and the spare material can snag on kit, rigging or machinery; too small and the glove restricts your movement and becomes uncomfortable over a long day. This guide will help you find your Dirty Rigger size, and pick the right glove style for the job.

    How to measure your hand

All you need is a soft tape measure and your hand.

Hand with a tape measure wrapped around it just below the knuckles

1Fingers together, lightly. Hold all four fingers together, but don't press them together firmly. This gives the most accurate measurement of the width of your hand.

2Measure below the knuckles. Place the tape just below your knuckles, wrap it around your hand and note the measurement.

3Find your size. Look up your measurement in the chart below. If you are between sizes, go for the larger size.

The chart is a general guide. Ideally your glove should be close-fitting but comfortable, and let you open and close your hand fully without feeling tight.

Size Size no. Hand circumference (mm) Hand circumference (in)
    XX-Small (XXS) 5 127mm 5in
    X-Small (XS) 6 152mm 6in
    Small (S) 7 178mm 7in
    Medium (M) 8 203mm 8in
    Large (L) 9 229mm 9in
    X-Large (XL) 10 254mm 10in
    XX-Large (XXL) 11 279mm 11in

This chart is for Dirty Rigger gloves only. Other brands use their own sizing, so a Large in another make may not be a Large in Dirty Rigger.

    Which style do you need?

    Full fingered

The classic work glove, covering the whole hand. A comfortable barrier for rigging, kit handling and manual work, with a fitted design that moves with your hand.

    Framer

The thumb, index and middle fingertips are cut short, so you can tie off, work clamps and press buttons by feel while the rest of the hand stays covered.

    Fingerless

All fingertips free for the most intricate tasks, while still keeping around 90% of the hand covered.

Smaller hands? Dirty Rigger's SlimFit gloves come in full fingered, framer and fingerless styles, cut narrower and in sizes down to XX-Small, so you are not working in a baggy glove.

How should a work glove fit?

Putting on a fingerless Dirty Rigger work glove
    • Close, with no gaps. The glove should sit snugly at the fingertips and around the wrist. A snug fit minimises snagging; a glove that is too big is more likely to get caught.
    • Not too tight. A glove that is too small hampers movement, can rub and cause friction burns, and can even restrict blood flow to your hands.
    • Full movement. You should be able to stretch your fingers, make a fist and grip just as you would without gloves.
