Hook and loop fasteners consist of two key components:
When these two sides come into contact, the hooks catch the loops, creating a secure bond. This bond is strong enough to hold items together but can be easily separated by pulling the two sides apart. The simplicity and reusability of this mechanism make it incredibly versatile.

The hook and loop fastener was invented in 1941 by Swiss engineer Georges de Mestral. Inspired by the way burrs stuck to his clothes and his dog’s fur during a walk in the Alps, de Mestral examined the burrs under a microscope. He noticed their tiny hooks and envisioned a man-made fastening system that could mimic this natural phenomenon. After years of development, he patented the invention in 1955, giving birth to what we now call Velcro®.
